Winter Trips

**We have limited availability during the Winter of 2022.**

Our winter season starts in October and operates through April each year, depending on snow conditions. Winter operations are based out of our Denali office, but we continue to offer services around the state. In addition to privately guided full day adventures our team can build multi-day activity packages or entire trip itineraries complete with dog mushing, aurora borealis viewing, skiing and more.  Some of our favorite winter adventures are listed below.

Winter is a unique and special time to visit the state. With that in mind, we like to speak with visitors before confirming winter reservations. Click the request info button below to tell us a bit about your winter trip goals, and someone from our team will contact you to discuss the details and review what to expect for your Alaska winter trip.

Clicking the request info will redirect you to our brief custom itinerary questionnaire.

Winter adventures include:

  • Private, Full Day Trip (up to 8 hours)

    • Get off the beaten path with a local guide for the entire day. Trip can include winter hiking or cross-country skiing (conditions pending) and an introduction to the Denali area. Day trips are customized to suit the interests and desired activity level of the group.
  • Private, Night Hike + Aurora Borealis Viewing (up to 8 hours)

    • A unique opportunity to combine adventure with the chance to see the aurora borealis—experience winter like an Alaskan. Night hikes take visitors into pristine Alaska wilderness. The quiet, open, alpine tundra provides a prime backdrop to see the northern lights, weather permitting.
    • Private, Dog Sledding Trips

      • Experience the last frontier with your own team of sled dogs. Day trips and multi-day custom trips available.
      • Custom pricing, contact us for details.

If you guessed a few days ago—you are correct! It still looks like winter in some areas in Denali right now. We’re actually skiing to scout some of our summer area routes. As always, we are ready to adapt to whatever Mother Nature decides to throw our way and have a great time outside (even if it means using our winter gear for getting around!).

Weeks after the Iditarod red lantern musher crosse Weeks after the Iditarod red lantern musher crossed the finish line, Joe is still hard at work wrapping up the logistics of the 1,000-mile sled dog race across Alaska.
With 22 checkpoints traveling through extremely remote areas of Alaska, the logistics consistently present challenges, however he handles each obstacle in a calm, laid-back demeanor. This is his 4th year operating the logistics for the race.
Needless to say, we are fortunate to have Joe’s expertise and dedication on the Traverse Alaska team!
