Joe & Mollie made trip planning so easy for my husband and I. It was our first time in Alaska and they did an amazing job making our vacation one of our most memorable and personalized vacations. They are both excellent people who have great ideas and superb local knowledge. We were very well taken care of on the trip. For outdoor adventures we went on some gorgeous day hikes, pack rafting (first time for both of us and highly recommend this), biking, sea kayaking and fly fishing. On the plane ride home we decided that Alaska is a place…

Epic. Amazing. Educational. Awesome. Traverse organized the whole trip for us, arriving in Fairbanks and leaving from Anchorage. We spent a few days in Denal with the best guide. He had us set up with hikes, rafting, etc. He also had a hike organized that was off the animal trail (literally no trail) which we loved. Full of information but more importantly had us feeling like long-term friends by the end of our stay in Denali. Our Traverse Alaska guide was just outstanding. Things go wrong in Alaska – weather, delays, etc. Traverse continually scrambled to find organizations that could…

“Joe guided 3 of us on a 4-day hike near Denali National Park. We couldn’t have had a better hike as Joe set up a hike that was both beautiful and isolated, we didn’t see another human for basically the entire trip. The hike also was adventurous in that there was no path or planned camping area and thus totally flexible on where we wanted to stop and camp each evening. Joe was well prepared and helped us as needed throughout the hike and set up food for us each evening. He is great people and my only worry is…

“Three of us buddies wanted an authentic Alaska trip that included hiking in the mountains by Denali as well as fly fishing and bear viewing via helicopter in Homer. Traverse Alaska made all arrangements including working within our budget and we were extremely pleased with all of the choices Joe made. Even better he was our guide on the 5 day backpacking trip and he is an awesome guide, the tents were great as was the food and he is just a great chill guy. The places he took us were basically untouched. I’ve travelled all over the world with…

“First time backpackers, my 14 year old son and I, we went out on a 7 night trek with Joe who is an outstanding guide. He has great expertise of the area and knew the best spots to camp each night. We were rewarded with impressive views of Denali throughout the week. We were in contact with Joe throughout the planning process and were able to work with some dietary specifications. The trip was totally suited to our abilities and we had a great time learning about Alaska and the tundra and enjoying being in this setting of magnificent beauty. The…

“I had been coming to Alaska for several years, and was really blown away by the superb knowledge and care that Joe Meyer gives to his Traverse Alaska clients.  Not only does Joe have first-hand knowledge about local places of interest, but he tailors his trips to meet his clients’ desires.  For me, this included a night spent camping near a glacier, and a lactose-free diet.  Seeing caribou, moose, eagles, beavers and hiking in the wilderness were highlights for me.  I would definitely recommend Traverse Alaska to anyone seeking the ultimate Alaskan adventure!”

“I had heard many people go on and on about how beautiful Alaska was and how much they enjoyed their vacations there. Maybe it was the countless cable tv shows about Alaska that finally convinced me that I had to see what all the rave was about. I knew that I didn’t want my first visit to see this incredible land to be from the windows of a ship or tour bus. I discovered Traverse Alaska and contacted Joe. He was great in helping plan the adventure. It seems as though we did more in 10 days than all my…

“Joe is an exceptional guide who loves sharing his knowledge and passion for the backcountry of Alaska. Joe was very patient and knowledgeable with our group. He definitely puts forth the extra work in planning and making it a unique experience. We spent time glacial walking, backpacking and packrafting. This is definitely the way to experience the landscape of Alaska. The trip was a wonderful, safe and entertaining experience. I would definitely recommend his company to others.”

“For over a decade my wife and I have wanted to visit Alaska but struggled with how best to go about it. We aren’t the cruise ship type so that was pretty much ruled out immediately. Alaska, even in the summer, is daunting however. Big and wild it poses challenges that not even Wyoming and Montana can match. Joe Meyer, and Traverse Alaska,  proved to be the answer to the riddle. We were fortunate to have him recommended to us through a contact and from the moment I first spoke with him I knew that I could trust him to…

“Dear Joe, Jenny and I have now arrived safely back in Australia after our wonderful holiday in Canada and Alaska. I thought I would send you a brief email expressing our appreciation for the amazing experiences you introduced us to, and for the way you looked after us during the time we spent at Tonglen Lake Lodge. The time we spent with you at Tonglen Lake was certainly one of the highlights. Your professionalism was of the highest standard. You took considerable trouble to show us some amazing scenery, wild life and to have us undertake some very adventurous activities…

Naomi and Steve Zacks

“Naomi and I were delighted with our Denali/Alaska experience. From beginning to end you arranged everything for us and did a great job of finding us first-class accommodations at very reasonable prices and to top that off you selected excellent restaurants that were able to deal with Naomi’s various allergies. Complimente! Your knowledge and passion for the land and its inhabitants, and your understanding of their various inter-relationships showed up in your selection of routes for exploration. From the very beginning you pointed out the risks of finding wildlife and that luck was your best friend. It seems that  unfortunately,…

New Yorker Meets Backcountry Alaska “No danger No people Scoop me off the floor from exhaustion These were the requirements I outlined to Joe for my human powered Alaskan adventure. And he delivered on all of them. Trekking endlessly through the backcountry for 4 days while surrendering to Joe’s expertise and knowledge was an experience of a lifetime. The existing trails were made by Caribou. The mountain floors were carpeted in blueberries. The air was clean and fresh. The scenery was straight out of a National Geographic Magazine – breathtaking. I could not have been further from New York City…

“We were overwhelmed by the vastness of Alaska and were struggling to put together an itinerary. Luckily, we found Joe and Traverse Alaska… he asked questions about what was most important to us, what sort of experience we wanted and personalized the trip for us. It turned out to be everything we wanted, a few things we didn’t know we wanted but loved, and probably the best experience we have ever had.  The diversity of our experience could not have been accomplished without Traverse Alaska. We began our adventure in Anchorage, spent several days in Denali, and then headed to…

“Flying into Fairbanks for a 12 day long-awaited dream vacation, we were met with the majestic beauty of mountains, green spruce, and the golden glory of birch trees announcing autumn. Peak season had just ended and we wanted to experience a personalized trip that would combine being physically active, enjoying Alaskan food, culture, nature, and wildlife. Traverse Alaska went above and beyond in meeting all our expectations for a 4 day guided hiking trip around the Denaili Park area. Joe Meyers, the owner fielded many questions as the trip approached, provided a detailed gear list to best prepare us for…

“Joe took my husband & I and our two boys (11 and 14) on a hike to the most spectacular spot between the Alaska Range and the Talkeetna Range. His knowledge of the wildlife and all the flowers was incredible. He got so excited when we found bear mounds near a known caribou path. Wish I’d gotten a video of him explaining how they go after the artic ground squirrels. Tim joined us the next day as the guide for our 3 day float beginning on the Chulitna River. He and Joe were fantastic hosts. We got to fish, camp,…
