We had a private tour in Denail national park that was perfect in many ways. First we had gorgeous weather. And we stayed very close to the park entrance, which allowed us plenty of time for hiking. Our guide ordered our lunch ahead of time so all we had to do was pick it up. We did several hikes in the park. Since we are up in years (mid 60s) our hikes were moderate and mostly on marked trails. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the sites we were seeing and the flora and fauna. We were fortunate to see the park's K-9 team at rest and other animals from a distance including a bear or two and some beavers. It truly was a great day!
Excellent experience with Traverse Alaska. We made reservations for a full day of guided hiking for a party of 4 (two adults and two kids). The hike was just right for our family. We all enjoyed learning to walk on the tundra and eating wild blueberries! Our guide, Jake, brought along plant identification cards that he handed out to our children so they could learn to recognize local plants while we were hiking. We did not encounter any bears (thankfully), but we did see a moose at a safe distance. The views were great! Jake even loaned us an extra pair of socks when one person's boots turned out to be less-than-waterproof.
Traverse Alaska was a pleasure to work with: great communication and very accommodating to our specific goal, which was to do an overnight hike with an experienced guide to learn some backcountry skills before heading out on our own for 12 days. They found us the perfect guide, Anne, who designed a hike around our requirements, and we definitely used the skills she taught us, e.g., high-river crossings and searching for sheep trails on the scree. We felt prepared and confident to backpack in the backcountry by ourselves and had a fantastic time.
